Bergen’s most child-friendly restaurants
Bergen has many wonderful restaurants, but not all are suitable for children. We’ve found three where families with small children are not only welcome but where there’s tasty food for the whole family.
1. Roll & Rock Bar and Diner
– the American way
As soon as you get close, the kids’ eyes will be on stalks! From the classic American car embedded in the exterior wall to all the other vintage details, you will be enticed inside. The OTT American style continues within and you might find yourself eating inside a yellow New York taxi cab. The menu includes sure-fire hits like sliders, fries and milkshakes. There’s no better place to go after burning off all that energy up on Fløyen!

2. Bryggeloftet & Stuene
– the Norwegian deal

Bryggeloftet & Stuene is situated between two of Bergen’s most popular tourist traps, Fisketorget and Bryggen, but don’t let that deter you. The restaurant is usually very busy but the atmosphere is always lively, the food tasty (prepared with fresh Norwegian ingredients) and the standard of service high. And there’s plenty of space for impatient kids who want their dinner! The children’s menu is excellent, but our favourite thing is that all adult dishes can be ordered in half portions at half price, so the kids can also try what mum and dad are having; a little Atlantic Wolf Fish maybe, or perhaps reindeer fillet steak with cranberries?

3. Ruccola Cafe & Restaurant
– a popular choice
Italian food is popular everywhere, and Bergen is no different. The food in this small and informal restaurant is both tasty and cheap. The only issue is that it’s also popular with locals, so it’s a good idea to book in advance at the weekend, or simply pop in and ask if they can squeeze in another hungry family. There are always crayons and drawing paper for the kids and tasty unpretentious food for both grown-ups and children.
