Frognerparken is the largest park in central Oslo, and the area is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. There's plenty of space for jogging, walking, picnics, sunbathing – or whatever else you can think of to spend a relaxing day with friends and family. Many also love to stroll through the park's impressive gardens, which include Norway's largest rose collection with more than 14,000 plants in 150 different varieties.

Frognerparken is also home to the famous Vigelandspark. Here you can take an art walk among the more than 200 sculptures created by the artist Gustav Vigeland, who also designed and gave his name to the park. Vigelandsparken is one of Norway's most famous attractions. It is visited by over one million people a year and a visit here is almost a cornucopia of impressions from flowers, buildings and works of art.

When Edvard Munch died, he donated all his artworks to the city of Oslo, and the spectacular new MUNCH building houses as many as 1,100 paintings, 4,500 drawings and watercolours, 18,000 graphic works and 6,000 books, letters and other documents.
Here you can of course see Munch's most famous work, The Scream, but the whole tour through the museum's many exhibitions gives a fantastic insight into the artist's many facets – from painting, drawings and sketches to photographic art, where he often stood in front of the camera in the form of selfies.
The museum also hosts a wide range of cultural events – and has one of Oslo's best views of the Oslo Fjord from the bar on the 13th floor, which you can access without a ticket for the museum.
The museum is one of the largest in the world dedicated to a single artist, and the building is almost an architectural and engineering work of art in itself: the impressive design makes the building a new landmark in Oslo's skyline, but more than that, the building is built with the climate in mind, so it is constructed primarily from recycled materials and has 50% less climate impact than similar buildings.

MUNCH Museum – Oslo's stunning new art landmark

If you're looking for a first–class opera, ballet or music experience, keep an eye out for the Oslo Operahus when you're on holiday in the beautiful capital. The programme often features world artists or concerts by new and emerging talents from the Norwegian music scene.
If the music programme isn't to your taste, visit the Opera House instead for a walk on the impressive sloping roof, which locals and tourists alike use as a destination for a pleasant picnic or coffee break. Here you'll get a spectacular view of the Oslo area – from the fjord and archipelago with its countless islets and colourful cabins, to Oslo itself and beyond to the beautiful hills and mountains that surround the capital.
If you want to combine the two experiences, the Opera House also regularly hosts outdoor concerts, where the roof provides the audience seats.

Oslo Opera House – Fantastic experiences inside and out

The museum is spread over a large area where you can travel between time periods, regions, towns and farms and experience how the Norwegians have lived and worked from the 16th century to the present day.
Explore the farms and see how they vary from region to region, and take a stroll along the cobbled streets of the "old town" and discover the impressive old town houses and shops. Don't be afraid to look inside – here you can meet the residents, who will be happy to show off their skills and tell you about their work and life during that period.
The King Oscar II Collection features unique old buildings that were moved to Oslo in 1890 and are considered the world's first open–air museum. The pearl of the collection is the spectacular Gol Stave Church, built as far back as the 13th century.
Don't forget to allow plenty of time for your visit, so that you can also visit the indoor exhibition, where you, for example can discover interiors, furniture, clothing, silverware, altarpieces, Sami handicrafts and, not least, Norway's first Great Hall.

Vigelandsparken is one of Norway's most visited attractions – more than one million people visit the 80–hectare park in western Oslo every year. Here you can see 212 sculptures in bronze, granite and cast iron by the Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland (1869–1943).



2. The Opera House
Oslo's Opera House offers unique experiences both indoors and out. The Opera House hosts a wide range of world–class opera and ballet performances, and is a popular attraction in its own right: the building is open to the public, and it's especially popular to take a walk up to the roof to enjoy panoramic views of the city and fjord.




3. The National Gallery
The Norwegian National Gallery has a large number of masterpieces in painting, drawing and sculpture. Here you can discover great works by Cézanne and Manet, for example.



The youngest members of the family can enjoy a special art experience in the museum's Fairy Tale Room, where they can meet princesses, goblins and other fairytale creatures or try out their artistic skills in the studios.



4. Holmenkollen
The iconic Holmenkollen ski jump is three attractions in one place: the state–of–the–art ski jump is also home to the world's oldest ski museum, where you can discover more than 4,000 years of ski history, and the viewing platform at the top of the ski jump hill offers a unique panoramic view of the capital.



5. TusenFryd
Some 20 kilometres south of Oslo is Norway's largest amusement park, TusenFryd. There are more than 30 rides, including Scandinavia's most spectacular roller coaster, SpeedMonster, thatgoes does 0–90 km/h in two seconds! The park also has plenty of rides for the little ones and a water park.
