Culture tour – Visit local artists' homes

Norefjell and Sigdal have been home to several great Norwegian artists whose homes are now museums or galleries.

Two of the artists who have found inspiration in the area's fascinating nature are the fairy–tale artist Theodor Kittelsen and the painter and writer Christian Skredsvig.

Theodor Kittelsen's (1857–1914) house, Lauvlia, is beautifully situated with views of mountain, forest and lake. Here you can visit his home and see examples of his adventurous art, including. elfs, trolls, the Nixie and other mythical creatures.

Children and children at heart can take a walk along the "Children's Path", where fairy tales and fables are brought to life through elaborate sculptures inspired by the Kittelsen universe.

When you visit Lauvlia, you'll also get a fascinating insight into how the artists lived in an area where they were very different from the locals. Everyone who visits the museum gets a personal tour with one of its guides.

If you want to see even more of Theodor Kittelsen's fascinating art, visit the Kittelsen Museum at the Blåfarveværket.

Christian Skredsvig's (1854–1924) home, Hagan, is one of Norway's best preserved artists' homes. Here you can feel the authentic atmosphere of a real artist's home with the original interior and at the same time experience Skredsvig's beautiful art in the landscape that inspired him. The museum counts some 150 original works by Skredsvig and several of his artist friends. In addition, there are regular shorter thematic exhibitions.
