Kristiansand Cannon Museum – The world's second largest cannon

Like Denmark, Norway was occupied by the Germans during World War Two, and as we know from the Danish coastlines, large and small military installations were built to defend the occupied territories against the Allies. One of these sites is Møvik Fort, which is now converted into the Kristiansand Cannon Museum.

The pearl of the museum's exhibition is the large 38 cm gun, which was built by the German army in 1942 and served as a "sister gun" to the gun exhibition in Bunkermuseum Hastholm on the Danish west coast. The two guns were strategically placed on both sides of the Skagerrak, so that the German army had full control over ship traffic in and out of the water.

The cannon is the world's second largest land–based cannon, and in addition to the cannon itself – which is the only one still complete and stands exactly where it was mounted in 1942 – you can experience an exciting exhibition about the war and the subsequent Norwegian coastal artillery on the site, which used the cannon until 1952.

In addition to the giant cannon and the museum's exhibition, you can explore a number of cannon bunkers and other cannon exhibits in the beautiful Møvik area, which is also a great place for a pleasant walk with beautiful views.
